Unique online library in Turkey

In connection with the situation with COVID-19 in the northern Turkish province of Karabuk, an online library started to work.

The library was organized on the campus of Karabük University (KBU) with the support of the Turkish philanthropist Kamil Gülec and is named after him.

The library provides access to nearly 190 university libraries in Turkey, writes Hurriyet.

Students can borrow and return books at kiosks equipped with self-checking systems.

The returned books are processed and put back on the shelves.

Refik Polat, Rector of Karabuk University, said the library is the only one of its kind in Turkey.

“Our library has collected nearly 60,000 printed books. The world is now focused on e-books and magazines.
We have over 20,000 e-books and almost 40,000 e-magazines. Our library is very popular” - he said.

The library also contains 6 million works with articles, dissertations, and other resources, Polat said.
