The Turkish Ministry of Commerce has fined 120 companies a total of 3.6 million lira for illegally increasing the price of basic groceries in 2021.

The review was carried out on 1,674 companies.

Fines between 10,911 lira and 100,910 lira threaten all sellers with inflated prices on the shelves.

According to official information, food prices rose by 20.6% compared to the previous year.

At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce stated that corporate controls were not intended to undermine free market principles.

Their aim is to keep basic food prices at a set level.
